WHAT: Lasting Legacies: A Tribute to the Chicano Art Movement Exhibit Through January 31, 2012

The exhibit is part of LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes’ salute to Pacific Standard Time and the Chicano artists who shaped the city -- featuring works by the Chicano greats: Wayne Alaniz Healy, Michael Amescua, Judy Baca, David Botello, Barbara Carrasco, Oscar Castillo, Harry Gamboa, Jr., Joe Gonzalez, Roberto Gutierrez, Judithe Hernández, Willie Herrón, Gilbert “Magu” Lujan, George Rodriguez, Joe D. Rodriguez, John Valadez and Linda Vallejo.

In the early years, the 1960s and 70s of the Chicano art movement, work created was predominately noncommercial and community-oriented, often recapturing the cultural history and political struggles of the time. The exhibition “Lasting Legacies: A Tribute to the Chicano Art Movement” provides a glimpse into some of the founders of this national artistic expression.
